Installation of Photovoltaic (PV) / Solar Energy Systems
Requirements Checklist
All requirements must be satisfied by the submitted homeowner’s request and further documented by the selected installer’s quotation for materials and services. Failure to comply with anyone of these requirements will be cause for disapproval by the Board.
Installation of PV/Solar technology will be approved on a case-by-case basis meeting the following requirements. Evaluation of current technology will be considered with each request. The following requirements will apply and be enforced:
_____ No part of the system shall be installed upon the ground level of the property
_____ If panel installation requires a clearance or air gap above the roof, the requested clearance must be the minimum possible and be approved by BEHA Architectural Review Board.
_____ Panels must follow the pitch line of the roof—no raised tilt angle.
_____ Panels must be certified or rated as anti-glare.
_____ The BEHA Architectural Board has the right to approve colors, shapes, and other aesthetic components.
_____ Panels shall not be installed on front exposure of house. Any requests for exceptions will be thoroughly scrutinized for aesthetic appeal. (Current information indicates panels can be installed on east, south and west exposures or combinations of same to achieve desired operational results).
_____ Inverter box, switches, disconnects, etc. must be installed in as inconspicuous a location as possible on the residence.
_____ Company installing PV/solar energy system must be certified with NABCEP or equivalent organization
_____ The PV/solar energy system must meet all the city of Lee’s Summit’s regulations regarding photovoltaic systems and installation. Installer must obtain Lee’s Summit Solar Permit Application, Checklist and Permit for Installation** before work begins.
